This book is deceptive. I was ready to write it off as codification of Chipotles or Qdoba, but I decided to stick with it and I found some subtle variation that I think may make it worthwhile. She blends Latin and a little Asian to come up with a cadre of mandatory ingredients.

  • mangoes
  • limes
  • chiles
  • mint
  • ginger
  • coconut
  • cilantro
Her recipes are simple, but seem well thought out. For example:

Tomato Ginger Soup with Mint Mojo
This is a basic soup recipe - onion, garlic, carrots, celery, chicken broth, tomatoes, and a little ginger.
The Mint Mojo is like an Italian pesto with cilantro, mint, garlic, oil, lemon juice, and sugar.

Or this recipe for rice pudding with star anise, cinnamon, vanilla bean, and some diced mango on top.

I think the combinations work. I'd be interested in seeing her restaurants in my area.
